Pasadena Sears Security Guard Stabbed by Bowie Knife Wielding Suspect

A security guard at the Pasadena Sears store in Hastings Ranch was stabbed with a Bowie knife Monday night shortly after 8 p.m. as he fought to detain a shoplifting suspect.

The guard was pursuing two suspects, Pasadena police Sergeant Ernie Devis, when the stabbing occurred in the parking lot just outside the Sears in the 3800 block of East Foothill Boulevard.

After the guard was stabbed, both suspects fled. Responding Pasadena police were able to locate and arrest one of the alleged attackers.

Sgt. Devis said Jeffrey Denuccio, 26, of Canyon Country area, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

The security guard was stabbed in his right shoulder, Devis said. He was stabilized at the scene by Pasadena Fire Department paramedics, then rushed to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is expect to survive.
