Pasadena Senior Center Changes Food Distribution Day in July

The Pasadena Senior Citizen Center announced today that there will be a change in the date of the monthly Food Distribution Program next month. Instead of coming to the Center on the first Friday, July 3, eligible seniors should come to the Center on July 10.

Center staff clarified that the date change will only be for the month of July, and will continue to be held on the first Fridays of succeeding months.

Pasadena residents who are 60 and above and who meet certain income guidelines are eligible for the program, where beneficiaries are given a 30-day allotment of groceries including canned and boxed food and non-perishable staples.

Monthly, about 600 low-income seniors come the Center to avail of the free groceries. The free food kit is prepared with specific nutritional needs such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk and related dairy products, cereals and other grain products.

Much of the donations come from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Recently, a grant from the Pasadena Community Foundation enabled the Center to add fresh whole chicken to the senior’s take-home cart.

To be eligible, Pasadena senior citizens must register in advance and must be able to show a California ID and an income statement. They are also advised to bring their grocery push carts on the distribution date.

The Pasadena Senior Citizen Center is at 85 East Holly Street, with telephone number(626) 685-6732.
