The Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its new banking branch on the campus of John Muir High School last Thursday; where students are employees and valuable work experience is created.

“We have a unique partnership with the Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union who have trained our students, worked with them, and is here with them each day that the credit union banking branch is open,” said John Muir High School Principal Lawton Gray.

“To have this institution in our community is the biggest takeaway from me. This is where I do my banking also,” Gray added.

PSFCU’s Mustang Branch provides a direct and immediate relationship between the students and their families with a financial institution that can provide banking services, credit and more. Students will get hands-on experience running the branch from industry professionals at PSFCU–an opportunity virtually unavailable to high schoolers.

“This is a fantastic partnership that is a win-win for everyone. We love how the student run branch has been embraced by the students and parents, faculty, alumni, and community leaders. This partnership signifies Pasadena Service’s commitment to our underserved communities and to help prepare students for every stage in life,” said Andy Tien, VP Marketing of Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union.

PSFCU takes on student interns every summer to join their corporate team and learn about the ins and outs of the world of finance and banking all before they graduate high school.

“I’m actually thinking of working for the credit union and pursuing a career there once I graduate from John Muir High School,” said John Muir senior and PSFCU bank teller Maria Villalobos.

The student run credit union branch is located near the front entrance of John Muir High School at 1905 Lincoln Ave and is open for business Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
