Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) recently hosted the new El Monte Promise Foundation (EMPF) Director, Pavitee Peumsang. The three main goals of the EMPF are: 1) cultivate a college prepared culture from Cradle to College; 2) promote family and community engagement; and 3) support underserved families to help them better understand how to finance the cost of college. She toured PSFCU’s student-run Mustang Branch at John Muir High School Early College Magnet and attended the recent Annual Meeting celebration at the main headquarters.
Pavitee was born in Bangkok, Thailand and immigrated with her family to the U.S. when she was five-years-old. She was raised in Downey and attended East Los Angeles College as a nontraditional student. In 2015, she earned her B.A. in Sociology and in 2016, earned her M.A. in Education from UCLA. Currently, Pavitee is a Ph.D. candidate in the Education Leadership & Policy program at the University of Texas at Austin.
Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union will be facilitating a financial literacy workshop about Credit Scores and the Loan application process on June 20th at the El Monte City School Disctrict, Frances Cole Board Room. This workshop will be led by Andy Tien, VP Marketing of Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union, who has served on the board of EMPF since 2017.
From Pavitee’s visit, she shared that “On behalf of the EMPF, I want to thank Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union for their continued collaboration and support. I look forward to working closely in partnership so we can serve and support our students and parents across the El Monte region and its surrounding communities.”
Pavitee looks forward to learning and collaborating with students, parents, and various stakeholders to collaboratively develop the implementation plan for the next phase of the 1) Roadmap to College; 2) promote student and parent engagement; and 3) offer student- and parent-centered workshops focused on financial preparation for college.
The goal is to introduce the Roadmap to College guide to school districts across El Monte and surrounding communities to promote English, mathematics, and reading literacy in the classroom and at home. Also, EMPF seeks to offer more student- and family-centered workshops to promote awareness and information related to EMPF’s Scholars Savings Program as well as alternative resources and support services to prepare families for the cost of college.
