Blair High School will be teaming up with Pasadena area restaurants in October to offer a program that will help students land their first jobs in the restaurant industry.

The Forces In Training (FIT) program provides restaurant executives with carefully designed curriculum that has been fine-tuned to teach resume writing, job-searching etiquette, interview skills, positive attitudes, teamwork and professionalism, all of which are critical to the restaurant industry, according to a statement released by the California Restaurant Association Foundation.

“We will have industry leaders as volunteers on October 25 going to Blair High School to teach the FIT program,” said Alycia Harshfield, CRAF’s Executive Director. “They will be talking about how to get a job, be a good employee and be a leader. Then [they’ll] have a chance to speak about their work experiences, career ladders and what they look for in a good employee.”

Restaurants which have participated in the program include BJ’s Restaurants, Speciality Restaurants Corporation, Wendy’s, Sysco, and Johnny Rocket’s, according to a statement.

“Thousands of young people all over California and all around the country dream of careers in the culinary arts,” Harshfield. “Their eyes have been opened to this fast-paced, exciting industry. Through FIT, we give them the tools they need to land that first job in an encapsulated presentation that helps get them where they want to go.”

Harshfield did not specify which restaurants will be working in tandem with students from Blair High School, which is participating in the FIT program for its third consecutive year.

FIT day will take place in 50 high schools across the state from 8 to11 a.m. on October 25. Students will be presented with information through a series called “Land it, Work it, Lead It,” and will receive a certificate upon completion, according to the statement.
