Transportation is not affected for students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Plans stipulate transportation service, McDonald said

Pasadena Unified School District Superintendent Brian McDonald issued a statement Wednesday night announcing that due to the District’s budget woes, bus service to hundreds of general education students will be discontinued for the next school year.

Here is the text of Dr. McDonald’s announcement:

“Although for some years state funding for transportation has not been enough to cover mandated busing costs, Pasadena Unified continued to provide general education transportation for an average 345 students each day. PUSD currently operates seven general education buses for students who attend schools other than their school of residence and for other purposes.

“However, in light of our District’s budget situation, general education transportation service can no longer be offered and will be discontinued in the 2018-19 school year as $12 million in reductions in the Fiscal Stabilization Plan and Second Interim Report are implemented.

Service will continue through the end of the current school year. Seven bus routes will be discontinued in 2018-2019: 701, 702, 703, 704, 705, 706 and 707.

Transportation is not affected for students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) stipulate transportation service.

Public transportation service is available through the City of Pasadena and LA Metro. Routes, schedules, and fare information are available at

* Pasadena Transit at www.cityofpasadena.net/pasadena-transit

* LA Metro at www.metro.net

We are committed to continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of our students and emerging from our fiscal challenges as a more accountable organization that makes effective and efficient use of our resources.
