Pasadena Water & Power Ranks Among Top 10 U.S. Utilities for Solar Installations in 2016

The Smart Electric Power Alliance has named Pasadena Water and Power as one of the top ten utilities in the nation with the most solar watts per customer installed in 2016.

To determine utility rankings, Smart Electric Power Alliance calculates the capacity of all newly installed solar photovoltaic systems and divides it by the total number electric customers in the service area.

Awards were given in four categories: Top 10 utilities for most solar megawatts and most solar watts per customer, and top 10 utilities for most energy storage megawatts and most energy storage watts per customer. The winners in all categories were announced at the Smart Electric Power Alliance utility conference on Wednesday, April 26, held in Tucson, Arizona.

This is the second time that Pasadena Water & Power’s solar installation efforts have been recognized by Smart Electric Power Alliance. Previously, in 2010, Pasadena Water & Power ranked 5th place among municipal utilities and 16th place among all utilities in the solar “Watts-per Customer” category with 22.3 solar watts per customer. With a jump to 545 solar watts per customer in just seven years – the majority of the installations consisting of large-scale commercial solar system – Pasadena Water & Power’s replacement on the 2017 Top 10 list demonstrates the utilities continued commitment to the expanding technology.
