The Pasadena Youth Council announces an exciting, innovative grant program designed for youth by youth. The Youth Enrichment Grant is intended to support youth in shaping their communities by awarding up to $1,000 for capital improvement projects, Grant applications will be reviewed and awarded by the Youth Council.

Eligible applicants under the age of 18 in the Pasadena Unified School District service area, which includes Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre, are invited to submit an application by December 1, 2014. A mandatory meeting for applicants will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall’s Grand Conference Room. Award announcements will be made in January 2015. Projects are required to have a capital improvement focus and qualified expenses include materials and supplies and exclude labor and advocacy costs.

“I am looking forward to all of the activities we have in store for Pasadena’s youth this year,” says Maddie Triplett, Youth Council Chair. “The entire Youth Council will be working hard all year, and all of us are extremely excited to see how many students will get involved.”

Design and funding for this program came out of Collaborate PASadena, representing School/City/Community working together for kids and families in Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre. Funding to support this youth philanthropic and civic engagement initiative will be provided by the City of Pasadena and the Pasadena Educational Foundation. The Foundation funds will support the effort in Sierra Madre and Altadena. To date, $8,000 in grant funding has been identified.

“The Youth Enrichment Grant Program not only further empowers and encourages community engagement in Pasadena’s youth,” says Mercy Santoro, Director of Human Services and Recreation, “but will also result in lasting and important community improvement projects.”
