A local resident who is an official of a Muslim organization is leading a delegation from Pasadena to an interfaith Prayer for Rain event on Saturday.

The 6:30 p.m. event in Chino will bring together representatives of various religious denominations – Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Buddhists, Hindus and other branches of Islam – as they pray together to end the long-running drought affecting California.

The prayer for rain will be held at the Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino, home of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Los Angeles West Chapter which is spearheading the interfaith event.

Pasadena resident Ibrahim Naeem is the Vice President and Outreach Secretary for the Ahmadiyya LA West Chapter.

Naeem said the prayer event has a “very simple concept, at its level.”

“As a human family, irrespective of religion, we have a responsibility to try to do what is in all of our best interest,” Naeem said. “And so from the religious point of view, that can easily translate into soliciting the support and participation of all the religious community to what we have, share in common, exercise our belief in God to help relieve us from the serious consequences of the drought.”

Imam Zafarullah Hanjra of the Baitul Hameed Mosque will perform the Prayer for Rain on behalf of the Islamic faith. The representatives of the other religious denominations will also have their own brief presentations on praying for rain
