The Southern California retail bank division of CIT Group Inc., is supporting America Saves Week with a $250 checking reward bonus available for consumers who open a new OneWest checking account before the end of 2019.

OneWest Bank is one of 1,500 organizations across the nation participating in America Saves Week, which seeks to motivate, encourage, and support low- to moderate-income households to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth.

“America Saves Week reminds us the importance of getting our finances on track,” said  Heather Ellison, Senior Vice President of Retail Banking for OneWest Bank. “Our goal with this offer is to make it easier for Southern Californians to meet their financial objectives, whether they aim to invest wisely, reduce debt or boost savings.”

Started in 2007, America Saves Week uses the principles of behavioral economics and social marketing to change behavior. Non?profit, government, and corporate groups participate in America Saves nationally and through local, regional, and statewide campaigns around the country. America Saves encourages individuals and families to take the America Saves pledge and organizations to promote savings year-round.

The checking offer is one way to encourage consistent saving among the bank’s customers and potential customers, the bank said in a statement.

In addition to taking advantage of rewards like the checking bonus, OneWest Bank also encourages customers to ensure their long-term financial stability by automating savings, setting and simplifying spending limits, establishing Bill Pay, and diversifying their investment strategy.

America Saves Week runs from Feb. 25 to March 2.
