Pasadenans, Get Out On That Ice and Curl!

Hollywood Curling, the only club in Los Angeles County that offers the sport of curling, will be opening its inaugural Pasadena Four-Week Winter League 2017 next Saturday, January 7, at the Pasadena Ice Skating Center, right inside the Pasadena Convention Center.

Both experienced and new curlers may sign up either as free agents or complete teams that will compete for four Saturday nights in the open league. New curlers are encouraged to attend a Learn-to-Curl class, one of which is scheduled on January 7 at the start of the league and other Saturdays before February.

Hollywood Curling says even absolute beginners can go on and sign up for a league after attending a single Learn-to-Curl session.
During a Learn-to-Curl session, the entire night is devoted to the introduction and instruction of curling. The session is ideal for those who have never tried the sport before but are curious to learn the basics. It starts with an ice safety meeting prior to stepping on the ice, where you’ll learn about delivery, sweeping and the finer points of the game.

Hollywood Curling will provide all the necessary equipment for the session. Participants are advised to wear loose fitting pants – jeans not recommended – and a sweatshirt.

You should dress in layers; it can be chilly on the ice, but you heat up quickly once you start playing and sweeping. Bring clean, flat-soled, close toed, comfortable shoes – tennis shoes or sneakers work well – and warm socks.

Spaces must be reserved in advance. Kids 10 and up are welcome, but require a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. Please arrive 30 minutes early to complete waivers and registration.

The Learn-to-Curl sessions will start at 10:15 p.m. at the Pasadena Ice Skating Center, at 300 E. Green Street.

General admission is $25, and junior participants (under 21) can register for $20.

Hollywood Curling, a member of the U.S. Curling Association (USCA), is a volunteer-run non-profit organization made up of amateur athletes who are passionate about the sport and strive to bring exposure to the community.
