Today four scouts from Pasadena Troop 4 became Eagle Scouts: Owen Braudrick, Nathanael Chow, Matthew Hu and Ethan Lee. On hand to take part in the celebration at Sierra Madre Community Recreation Center was Westminister Presbyterian Church’s Pastor Martha Campbell, Mike Cunningham, Scout Master Emeritus John Grace, Scout Master Emeritus Mike Emerson, Mike Jorgensen, David Muhs, and Michael Nerone.

Owen Braudrick began his scouting career with Troop 4 in early 2010. Since Braudrick was born and raised in Sierra Madre, CA he chose to lead the troop in the repair of a historic footbridge in the lower Sierra Madre canyon. Braudrick has been an active leader in his troop. He has held leadership positions for his patrol and his troop. Over the years he has been the scribe, guide, Librarian, patrol leader and senior patrol leader for Troop 4.

Braudrick has been on a wide variety of camping trips with Troop 4. He attended Cherry Valley, Joshua Tree, and Red Rock.

Along with the troop Braudrick went on many small backpack trips throughout the local mountains and learned many survival skills. He has served as a counselor for over four weeks at Camp Cherry Valley and Camp Chawanakee. Braudrick graduated from Pasadena High School in May 2018. He will be attending UCLA in the Fall and plans to major in Environmental Science with a Global Studies focus.

In his time with the troop Braudrick has camped 67 nights, hiked 106 miles and put in 102 community service hours.

Nathanael Chow began his scouting career with the Cub Scouts of Pack 37 at Don Benito Fundamental earning the Arrow of Light, the highest Cub Scout award.

Chow’s Eagle Project took place in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California. For his project, Chow led the troop in painting a large hallway in the lower level of the Church.

At Troop 4 Chow has been active in a leadership role. He has held leadership positions for his patrol and for his troop. In the patrol he has been the quartermaster, assistant patrol leader and patrol leader. For the troop he has served as quartermaster and troop guide.

Chow attended five week-long summer camps in addition to 40 days of weekend camping trips. The merit badges earned at these camps helped him earn the Eagle Bronze Palm and the Eagle Gold Palm. In May, 2018, Chow graduated from Pasadena High School. He has chosen to attend the University of California Santa Cruz this fall, where he plans to major in Computer Engineering.

Chow engaged in many activities with his troop: he camped 70 nights, hiked 57 miles, and put in 132 community service hours.

Matthew Hu began his journey as a Cub Scout with Hugo Reid Elementary Pack 113. On March 8, 2011, he bridged over to Boy Scouts and joined Troop 125. He received his Arrow of Light in February of 2012. During his time in this troop, he took on responsibilities as patrol leader, instructor, and quartermaster. In January of 2015, he made a transition to Troop 2131, which was newly founded.

Starting February of 2016, Hu joined Troop 4 in Pasadena and enjoyed local campouts backpacking trips, and assisted with numerous Eagle projects. He served as historian and assembled a wall of service in the Scout Haus and was a contributor to the troop website.

Hu’s Eagle project was to renovate the three-story stairwell that leads to the gym of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. His project allowed him to experience careful planning and leadership with a crew of Troop 4 volunteers.

Hu graduated in June of 2018 from Arcadia High School. He will be attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and majoring in City and Regional Planning.

Hu’s scouting record includes 39 nights camping, 22 miles hiking, 58.5 service hours, and a total of 35 merit badges.

Ethan Lee started his scouting journey with Pack 92 in Fairfield Connecticut. After moving to California, he joined St. Rita’s Church Pack 110. He bridged over from Webelos and joined Troop 4 of Pasadena in fifth grade. When the family moved once again Lee became part of Troop 74 in Atlanta, Georgia where he got to experience survival camping in Pisgah National Park, explore the Naval Base at Laurel Island, canoe on the Flint River, hike the Appalachian Trail and experience caving in Tennessee just to name a few things. But another family move brought Lee back to California and he rejoined Troop 4. He has spent time camping in Cherry Valley, Joshua Tree Park and last summer hiked the High Sierras.

For Lee’s Eagle project he oversaw the improvement of the Sierra Madre Community Nursery School back gardens by clearing brush and landscaping. During his time with Troop 4 Lee held the position of quartermaster and assistant senior patrol leader.

Lee is a recent graduate of LaSalle High School and will attend Cal Poly Pomona in the fall studying Industrial Engineering.

Lee hiked 50 miles, camped 35 nights and earned his cycling merit badge by riding over 150 miles.

In addition to the four boys and their remarkable accomplishments, Troop 4 thanked Boy Scouts of America, Greater Los Angeles Area Council, Rose Bowl District, Westminster Presbyterian Church and Troop 4 Scoutmasters, Adult Scout Leaders, parents and family members.

Founded in 1913, Troop 4 is one of the oldest Boy Scout troops in the western U.S. and, with nearly one hundred scouts, one of the largest in the San Gabriel Valley Council. Because of their history and large volunteer staff, Troop 4 offers a variety of events, projects and adventures for the complete scouting experience. Troop 4 meets Monday evenings at 7:15 p.m. at Westminister Presbyterian Church which has continued to charter Troop 4 for 105 years. For more information on Troop 4, visit troop4.net. Westminister Presbyterian Church is located at 1757 N. Lake Avenue, Pasadena CA 91104. For more information on Westminister Presbyterian Church visit wpcpas.org.
