The Dog Bakery, which first opened in Pasadena 13 years ago, has opened a new store at Long Beach’s Belmont Shore community, located at 4818 E 2nd Street last week, said a report in the Long Beach Post.

The store is The Dog Bakery’s sixth location in the Los Angeles area, which also includes two Dog Bakery Limited stores at Pet Express locations in Pasadena and Beverly Hills, and a Dog Bakery kiosk inside LAX’s Delta Terminal 5.

The new store replaces a former Pussy and Pooch pet store location.

The October 24 event was a soft opening, the report said, and owners Rocky Kanaka and Kelly Hannaford said they’re planning a grand opening in early November.

The Dog Bakery specializes in all-natural, hand-made freshly baked goods and treats for dogs – including doogie birthday cakes which the pet owner can get customized by calling the store, bone cakes, circle cakes and heart cakes of every flavor and color, and “pupstries” that are “dog tested, puppy approved,” descriptions of the products show on The Dog Bakery’s website.

Their ingredients are meticulously selected, all-natural, chemical free, and their treats are baked with only the freshest ingredients.

“From our little bakeries to your home, we know your dog will enjoy the love we bake into each bite,” the shop’s website adds.

The bakery also stocks hard-to-find specialty items for dogs and top-selling pet goods, toys, and clothes; collars and leashes, and beds for pets. Also available are packaged cat and dog food.

If you’re planning a birthday party for your dog, or an “adoptiversary” party, The Dog Bakery can set up a room in their store for your and your family – and your pet.

On Thanksgiving, The Dog Bakery will sell home-cooked “Barksgiving Day” dinners for dogs – including pot pie, doggie mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and a squeaky toy. Staff will also visit animal shelters and give away doggie meals, according to the report.

The Dog Bakery maintains an active online presence, and get orders from all over the country, although the owners know how important their actual presence is in the communities they serve.

“A brick-and-mortar store puts you right in the middle of it all, and the pets can actually taste the goodies,” Kanaka told Long Beach Post. “All of our decisions are community-based. That’s why we had the soft opening first – to feel out the community and scratch a few ears.”

In Pasadena, The Dog Bakery is at 36 W. Colorado Blvd. in Old Town Pasadena, which you can contract through (626) 440-0443.

The Dog Bakery Limited location is Pet Food Express, located at 320 S. Lake Avenue, phone no. (626) 578-1111.
