The highly anticipated pre-apocalyptic film “The Second Coming of Christ” will begin its Los Angeles theatrical release on December 7 at Pasadena’s prestigious Laemmle Playhouse 7, located at 673 East Colorado Blvd.
A little over a year ago, the film received Pope Francis’ blessing, and recently, The Dove Foundation awarded the film its coveted “Faith-Friendly” seal.
The film follows the gripping yet inspirational journey of an atheist scientist in a struggle with good and evil who, at the end of times, discovers that true faith can bring miracles.
A blight hits all the plants on the Earth, and this results in a domino effect. Animals die, and insects and people are left starving, due to the lack of vegetables and meat.
The film uses survival as one of the plot devices. The devil shows up in human form, and people sell their souls to him for provisions. A preacher named John shares the good news of God’s love as well as what meager amounts of food he has. He offers them hope. The scientist briefly has a relationship with the “human” devil but then cries out to God in the end.
“The Second Coming of Christ” stars Diana Angelson, Jason London, Quinton Aaron, Natalie Burn, Al Sapienza, and Meredith Salinger, and marks the directorial debut of Daniel Anghelcev. The film also features Golden Globe nominee Tom Sizemore and Oscar nominee Sally Kirkland. Angelson also wrote the screenplay.
The movie starts at 7 p.m. at the Laemmle Playhouse 7.
