With the 2015 season only a few weeks away, the Pasadena City College football team is in full pad drills under first-year Lancers head coach Thom Kaumeyer.
While the ’15 roster has not been finalized, 17 lettermen are joined by a large freshmen class. Among the returning players are ’14 leading tackler and linebacker Jalyn Williams (73 tackles, three sacks, three fumble recoveries, Cathedral High), linebacker Terry Wilson (40 tackles, Muir HIgh), linebacker Sean Cowell (40 tackles, La Salle HS), defensive back Robert Morgan (25 tackles, two interceptions, Oaks Christian), and medical redshirt defensive back Evan Alexander (20 tackles, one interception in 2013, Etiwanda).
On offense, running back Justin Carroll was the team’s leading rusher (just 251 yards, 4.7 per carry, from Illinois Guilford High) while Ricky Blair (31 receptions, four TDs, 17.6 per catch, Los Altos) performed as the team’s second-most productive wide receiver last year.
“We’re a work in progress,” Kaumeyer said. “We’re lucky to have some experience on defense especially at linebacker. We’re still going to be a very young team. The assistant coaches and myself are learning what the players strengths may be while many of our players are making the adjustment to the college game.”
PCC begins the season on Saturday, Sept. 7 when the Lancers travel to face El Camino College. The game is a 5 p.m. kickoff at the Warriors’ off-campus field–Redondo Union High.
