David Jimenez is king of the backstroke in the South Coast Conference after his two event wins highlighted the Pasadena City College men’s swim team’s performance at the conference championships held April 21-23 at Cerritos College.

Jimenez beat out Long Beach’s Aaron Mowl by .46 of a second to win the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 54.59 seconds. He also captured the 200 backstroke gold medal as the only conference swimmer to break two minutes with a time of 1:59.19.

Jimenez (from Marshall Fundamental) is the 11th Lancer to be a double SCC champion in the 17 years that head coach Terry Stoddard has directed the PCC men’s swim program. However, Jimenez is the first backstroke specialty swimmer to achieve the feat.

Overall, Pasadena placed sixth out of eight teams with 289 points. Mt. San Antonio won the team men’s championship with 818 points.

Phillip Lee took third in the 100 butterfly (54.86). Jimenez also had a strong fourth in the 50 freestyle (22.24).
