A peace march is being organized for Monday evening near the spot where a 39-year-old man was shot to death in broad daylight late last week.

Monte Russell of Los Angeles died of gunshot wounds he suffered in a parking lot in the 1700 block of East Washington Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. Friday. Russell had been in the area to get a haircut, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

Organizer Brandon Lamar said Monday’s community peace march will start at 6 p.m. at the Rite-Aid on Washington Boulevard at Hill Avenue and proceed east, culminating with a prayer vigil in the alley on Washington Boulevard and Sinaloa Avenue.

Lamar is the third Vice President of the NAACP Pasadena branch, and a former Peer Mentor at Hillsides, a well-known facility that provides care to vulnerable children.

“Bring the family,” Lamar urged.

Little information about Friday’s homicide has been released by authorities.

The victim’s mother told the Star-News that her son had been involved in gangs in the past but had turned his life around and was working as a tile installer for an Altadena company and had three daughters.
