Area Pickleball enthusiasts (pickleballers) should know the know the open play summer schedule at Charles S. Farnsworth Park, is now available.
“In addition to the great exercise you will get and the immeasurable fun you will have, you will meet some of the nicest community members, your neighbors, old friends,” said Lynn Rabin, the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) ambassador to Altadena.
Pickleball, introduced in Washington state a few years ago is, in fact, the fastest growing sport in the nation-state.
The new paddle sport was created for all ages and skill levels, allowing grandparents to play with their children and grandchildren. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, while still allowing for a more competitive level of player.
The Farnsworth Park courts will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays starting June 1. Other open play hours are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
The schedule could change, Rabin said, once renovation work on the courts begins. The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is waiting for at least two weeks of no rain in the forecast to begin resurfacing and line painting work, she added.
For new players, equipment is provided at Farnsworth Park, including a ball and a pickleball paddle, which is smaller than a tennis racket but larger than a ping-pong paddle.
The park is located at 568 Mount Curve Avenue in Altadena. For further information, call Lynn Rabin at (626) 398-0379 or (818) 636-7388 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
