Pasadena police said today that Chauncey Hollis, 41, of Monrovia was arrested last Friday for the Dec. 27, 2011 murder of Altadena resident Edward Santana, 42, in the area of Marengo Avenue and Dearborn Street in Pasadena.
On that morning in 2011 at approximately 5:30 a.m., Pasadena police responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Marengo Avenue and Tremont Street.
Officers located shell casings in the 1900 block of N. Marengo Avenue. While conducting their search of the area, officers located the body of Santana between a wall and fence. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
There were no eyewitnesses to the shooting. However, a witness did see a vehicle leaving the area after the shooting.
Police say homicide detectives were able to obtain information that led them to Hollis as a person of interest due to his connections to the location where the homicide occurred.
On May 18, members of the Pasadena Police dept.’s Criminal Investigation Section saw Hollis driving in east Pasadena and took him into custody without incident.
The case is still under investigation and will be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
Hollis had been on parole on an unrelated matter and had been “at large†since October 2010. He is now being on a no bail parole warrant in the Pasadena Jail.
Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to contact Lieutenant Tracey Ibarra at (626) 744-4522. An anonymous report can also be made through Crime Stoppers at: http://lacrimestoppers.org (the word “Pasadena†must be inserted in the format).
