LISTEN TO 911 CALL: Pasadena police 911 call March 24, 2012 Which Led to Kendrec McDade Shooting

Pasadena police have arrested the 911 caller whose call Saturday night claiming he had been robbed by two black youths flashing a gun near the intersection of Summit Avenue and Orange Grove Blvd. allegedly led to the pursuit and shooting by police of Kendrec Lavelle McDade, 20, of Azusa.

The caller, whom police have identified as Oscar Carrillo, 26, of Pasadena, claimed he had been accosted by the two and that the pair had stolen a laptop computer from his car. He said he was giving chase in his car as he dialed in the 911 call.

Police now believe that the caller was lying and that neither youth was armed.

The officers responded to  the call of an armed robbery.

Police say two officers immediately arrived and saw one suspect running near Fair Oaks Avenue and Orange Grove Blvd.

The officers pursued the suspect north on Sunset Avenue from Orange Grove Blvd and as they neared him, police say the officers “observed his hands at his waistband. Fearing for their lives they fired multiple shots striking the suspect.”

The suspect was transported to local area hospital where he died.

In spite of intensive searches, including one by bloodhounds provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept., no weapon was ever located.
