Police Chief Recaps Week’s Critical Incident

On February 6, a Marshall Fundamental High School Security officer observed a student (Male Black, approximately 14 years old) on the roof of a school building. The security agent did not believe the student was going to jump off the building or otherwise injury himself; however, out of an abundance of caution, he notified Pasadena Police Safe Schools Team officers, who responded. Other police personnel also responded to the call. Officer Carlos Sainz contacted the student, asked him to come down from the roof, and the student immediately complied.

On February 8 at about 10:06 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the area of Fair Oaks Avenue and Bellevue Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon investigation. On arrival, officers talked with the victim (Male Hispanic, 28) who said he was attacked by the suspect, who was armed with a hammer. The victim and suspect work together; however, the combatant became angry with the victim during their work shift. The suspect struck the victim once on the side of the head with the hammer, causing moderate injuries. The suspect was located near the crime scene and arrested without incident. The hammer was also located and the suspect was booked at the Pasadena jail.

On February 9 at about 3:50 a.m., Pasadena Police Officers Adesina and Saunders were on routine patrol in the area of Orange Grove Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue when they observed a suspicious vehicle parked nearby. The officers developed enough probable cause and contacted the subjects in the vehicle. Their field investigation led to the recovery of approximately 40 grams of crystal methamphetamine. The suspects were arrested without incident and booked at the Pasadena jail. Great proactive police work by Officers Adesina and Saunders!

On February 9 at about 11:13 a.m., Pasadena Police Patrol Team 1 officers responded to the 600 block of West Washington Boulevard regarding two female adults removing items from a vehicle. The person notifying the police knew the vehicle had been reported stolen within the past few days. When officer arrived, the females were detained. They were subsequently arrested without incident when the officers recognized the females from a recent CVS robbery. PPD Patrol Team 1 officers also identified a second stolen vehicle on the property. Both cars were recovered. Officer then focused their attention on the residence after observing several items in plain view, believed to be stolen property. Officers applied for a warrant and a superior court judge authorized the search. The investigation was supervised by Sergeant Beene. The West San Gabriel Valley Anti-Crime Taskforce also assisted with the investigation.

On February 13 at about 8:30 a.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 1300 block of North Allen Avenue regarding a Stalking Investigation. On arrival officers talked with the victim who she has been separated from her husband for a period of time and was currently seeking a divorce. The victim was in possession of a lawful restraining order prohibiting direct contact by the suspect. The victim said the suspect had followed her to a local market and watch her as she shopped. Officers located the suspect in the approximate area of the market and conducted a field interview. During the interview the suspect admitted he was watching the victim and was arrested without incident. The suspect was later booked at the Pasadena jail. Allegedly this is the fourth case (in the past 12 months) against the suspect.
