[Updated Sunday, March 1, 2015 | 1:55 p.m.]   In an email Sunday, Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip Sanchez said Special Enforcement officers recovered a loaded handgun after they pursued and caught a suspect Saturday night.

Sanchez said that at about  11:00 p.m. Special Enforcement Section Officers Garcia and De La Cruz were on “proactive patrol” when they observed a known gang member acting suspiciously.

The officers attempted to contact the gang member, who immediately ran away, attempting evade them, Sanchez said.

After a brief foot pursuit the suspect was taken into custody without incident near North El Molino Avenue at East Mountain Street.

Officers retraced the suspect’s path and recovered loaded handgun, Sanchez said.

Arrested was Oscar Brown, 39, a  Pasadena resident, who was booked at the Pasadena Jail for being a felon in possession of a handgun, Sanchez said.

The police chief said that Brown is a known gang member.
