Handgun Found as Police Officers Disperse Gathering Crowd

Police found a handgun as they were dispersing a group of people who had been gathering at the Kings Villages Apartments in the 1100 block of North Fair Oaks Ave. about 10 p.m. Saturday.

Pasadena police Lt. Kim Smith said police took possession of the gun but were unable to determine its owner. No arrests were made.

Nearby residents said they were on edge as the officers swept a neighborhood area beyond the complex under the watchful of a police helicopter.

“This is happening too often,” one nervous resident who lives one block from King’s Villages said to Pasadena Now about 45 minutes into the sweep. “Cops all over by my house, and helicopter’s flashing lights on my yard.”

The resident said she was supportive of police anti-gang efforts.

The police response came the same day Police Chief John Perez announced he will ramp up his Department’s response to a recent increase in gang and criminal violence.

Perez said he has authorized “the strategic deployment of resources to reduce further violent acts and arrest those responsible.”

On Friday night, two women were shot and a man injured by flying glass in what investigators believe was a car-to-car shooting. None of the victims’ injuries was life-threatening, authorities said.

No suspects have yet been named in that shooting.
