South Pasadena Police Detectives said Monday night they stopped a potential mass shooting at South Pasadena High School after receiving information from school officials.

Detectives have been working around the clock since learning that two South Pasadena High School students were plotting to kill three staff members and as many students as possible with firearms, authorities report.

South Pasadena Police detectives served warrants at the each of the student’s homes. Enough evidence was discovered, and based on that evidence the two students were arrested at their homes. One of the students was arrested without incident. The second student resisted arrest and officers had to force entry into his residence. He was captured in the home as he tried to run away from the arresting officers.

“This is a prime example of school officials recognizing suspicious behavior. It was this information that helped prevent a horrific tragedy,” according to Police Sergeant Brian Solinsky.
