Pasadena police have updated and corrected information about an unusual home invasion-style armed robbery which occurred last Sunday night in the quiet Brigden Ranch neighborhood of Pasadena.

The robbery occurred on Sunday, August 12 at 9:26 p.m. when a group of four men, some armed with handguns, gained entry to a residence in the 2100 block of Brigden Road.

Inside were an 86-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman. It is not known if the pair are married or related.

The suspects demanded money and one of the suspects struck the man in the head with the butt of a gun, authorities said.

Fearing for their lives, one of the victims told the men where money was kept in the house.

The robbers also ransacked the house before fleeing with cash and possibly other valuables as well, Lt. Max Dahlstein said.

The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, Dahlstein said.

Police still do not have descriptions of the suspects, according to Lt. Jesse Carrillo.

The style of robbery, with a group of robbers invading a home and confronting occupants, is very rare in Pasadena. Carrillo said Pasadena police have contacted other local law enforcement agencies to determine if the incident fits the modus operandi of other similar area crimes.

District 2 Councilmember Margaret McAustin, who represents the neighborhood, said the aggressive home invasion style robbery “is highly unusual in Pasadena” and that her office is working with police and neighbors to go over what happened, what the police know and what people can do to prevent these kinds of situations.
