The 18-year old cleaning worker killed by a gun at the Rose Bowl Sept. 14 was apparently a victim of circumstance after wrapping up his first day on a new job, according to City of Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.

The victim, 18-year-old West Los Angeles College student Kamryn Stone, was getting off from work when a fight outside the stadium turned ugly and erupted into gunfire which struck both Stone and another man, who survived, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 11:22 p.m. in the area of Arroyo Boulevard and Seco Street where police responders found the two wounded men.

Stone, who was a resident of Los Angeles, died at a local hospital. He was, according to CBS2, a newly minted high school graduate learning the fundamentals of real estate at West Los Angeles College.

Stone worked for a subcontractor of ABM, a company the Rose Bowl contracts with to handle clean up.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident and our thoughts are with the families of those involved,” said ABM’s communication manager Alex Varjan in a statement. ABM, he said, is cooperating with authorities and could provide no further information.

The second victim, a 51-year-old man, is expected to survive.

The motive for the fight and shooting remains under investigation.

Pasadena police asked anyone with information regarding the incident to call them at (626) 744-4241.
