[Updated 9:19 p.m.]  A large scale power outage occurred throughout southeast Pasadena at about 7:40 p.m. Monday, authorities have confirmed.

Wendy De Leon, Customer Service Manager for Pasadena Water & Power, said electricity was restored to most affected areas about 8:55 p.m.

A Pasadena police alert said the outage area was south of the 210 Freeway at Wilson Ave. and east to Rosemead Blvd.

De Leon said that several thousand customers were affected, and that street lights and traffic signals in those neighborhoods were also were knocked out.

Pasadena police responded to perform traffic control, De Leon said.

Pasadena Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian said that no car accidents or injuries of any kind were reported in the affected areas of the city during the power outage, however the department did receive multiple calls for elevator rescues.

De Leon confirmed the cause of the outage was a mylar balloon coming into contact with power lines.

One resident reported all street lights and traffic signals were out along Colorado Boulevard from Sierra Madre Blvd. to Allen Avenue.

“It’s really scary and dangerous out there,” he said.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he heard sirens and saw numerous Pasadena Fire Dept. units in the streets.
