PCC President Mark Rocha Appears on National Webcast About Challenges Facing Public Education Today

Pasadena City College (PCC) in conjunction with the producers of the award winning documentary, “GO PUBLIC: A Day in the Life of an American School District”, is hosting a national webcast on April 30th from 6:00 PM Pacific Time, focusing on the challenges facing public education across the nation.

In studio guests include: Dr. Mark Rocha, Superintendent/President of Pasadena City College, Jon Gundry, Superintendent of the Pasadena Unified School District, William Wong, Gabrielino High SchoolMath Teacher and President of the San Gabriel Teachers Union and Dr. Mikala Rahn, CEO of Learning Works Charter School and a Pasadena Unified School Board Member.

Education experts from across the country participating include Dr. Stephen Schroth, Associate Professor of Educational Studies at Knox College in Illinois, Leslie Blatteau, social studies teacher in the New Haven Public Schools in Connecticut, Cindy Winckler, a seven- term Iowa State Legislator and ranking member of the Education Budget Sub Committee, Dot Kearns, former school board member and education commissioner in North Carolina and Dr. Yvonne Brannon, Director of the Center for Urban Affairs and Community Services at North Carolina State University and one of the founders of Public Schools First NC.

Ninety percent of children in the United States attend public school.  PCC and the GO PUBLIC producers seek to engage a national conversation through this webcast platform in an effort to promote a more informed dialogue about the issues facing public education in our nation.

GO PUBLIC: A Day in the Life of an American School District is a 90 minute documentary that captures the complexity and promise of public education and gives a voice to people actually living the public school experience.  The film can be seen on select independent PBS stations across the country beginning in late April with specific airdates listed at http://gopublicproject.org/screenings/screenings-schedule/.
