Professional Child Development Associates (PCDA) will host its annual Move-A-Thon, a FREE event open to the public on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Brookside Park, 360 N Arroyo Blvd, Pasadena from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

While parents gather information about opportunities in our community for sports and physical activities adapted for their child with developmental disabilities, kids can play and sample the activities in a fair-like atmosphere.

This event, generously sponsored by Sierra Autocars Family of Dealerships, is a collaboration with the City of Pasadena to promote fitness and nutrition for children of all abilities and their families. 500 participants are expected to attend.

According to Dr. Diane Cullinane, Executive Director of PCDA, “Children and teens with autism or other developmental disabilities sometimes find it difficult to participate in physical fitness activities for a variety of reasons. At Move-a-Thon, we provide a fun way for families to gather ideas and resources to support their children’s fitness, which is so important for overall health and well-being.”

The Move-A-Thon event includes a wide array of activities for children, all with adaptations for those with autism or other developmental disabilities, including dance, baseball and t-ball, martial arts, soccer, yoga, tennis, golf, drumming, and others. There will be live onstage and roaming entertainment, and visits from Pasadena Fire and Police Departments. Local organizations that provide activities tailored to children with developmental disabilities are on hand to provide information and help run activities; food trucks and vendors provide healthy refreshments.
