Refused, Panhandler Attacks and Injures Restaurant Patron

A 67-year-old man suffered blunt force trauma and cuts after he was hit over the head with a metal chair Saturday afternoon by a transient who had been refused money, police said.

Pasadena police Lt. Tom Delgado said the victim was eating at a Carl’s Jr. in the 1400 block of East Colorado Blvd. about 2:29 p.m. when a panhandler entered the restaurant and approached the victim and his friends.

When one of the member’s of the victim’s group refused to give the suspect money, the suspect grabbed a metal chair and swung it, hitting the victim in the head, Delgado said.

Responding officers captured the suspect two blocks away. He is identified by authorities as Frank Muñoz, of Long Beach. Muñoz was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

The condition of the victim, who is a resident of San Jacinto, was not immediately known.
