Registration for La Canada Presbyterian Church’s Parent Education Fall Program begins May 8th! Entering its 40th year, Parent Ed offers 15 daytime classes and 4 night time classes for parents of children 0-18 that provide education, friendship, and sustenance. Daytime classes meet weekly September through May and nighttime classes meet in 4 week sessions throughout the year. Each class is taught by reputable staff all who have: master level degrees or 20 years of teaching experience (or both!), decades of parenting experience, and a deep love for God. Parent Ed attracts over 500 participants from 22 different cities. Classes fill up fast, so don’t wait to register!

Parents of newborns through age five attend joint Parent-and-Child Classes where both children and adults form lasting friendships as well as receive valuable education from seasoned educators. New Babies and Babies classes focus on the first year challenges of eating, sleeping and changing family dynamics– while Toddler and Two-Year Old classes add discussions on discipline, potty training and nurturing the whole child. The Family Class allows the parent to bring all children ages 0-5 five—and discusses raising young children as well as creating calm in a multi-child family. Parenting 3-4 Year Olds focuses on kindergarten prep, nurturing the whole child, and developing self-regulation.

Parents with school-aged children attend Parent-Only Sessions to talk over the extra set of challenges that accompany raising elementary, tween and teen children. Parents of Elementary Kids covers the latest in brain research and how it relates to children’s development, learning, behavior and relationships. Parents of Tweens class features large and small group discussion relating to pre-adolescent issues such as peer relationships, family communication, puberty and school adjustments. Parents of High Schoolers makes for a compelling class on adolescent identity, family communication, dating, driving, college preparation and learning to “let go.” Parenting Express is a 4 week evening program offered several times throughout the year. Each series focuses on a particular age group with key topics presented by our regular teaching staff. This year, Parent Ed is also excited to offer “Parenting Your Exceptional Child.” Taught by brain trainer Vicki Rekedal, this class is designed for parents of children “outside the box” who are managing exceptional issues like ADD/ADHD, autism, medical or social challenges, high IQ, etc.

And lastly, Parent Ed’s Summer Family Class begins May 23 or 24th for parents and children ages 0-5. Some spaces are still available—register ASAP!

Please go to www.lacanadapc.org/parented for class listings, staff bios, and online registration. Course listings for the evening Parenting Express will be available in the summer. Scholarships and payment plans are available online. Affordable childcare is offered during all class times. La Canada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill in La Canada.
