Rep. Chu Marks One-Year Anniversary of Senate Passage of Immigration Reform

Urges House Republican Leadership to Act on Reform

Today, Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA) joined Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democratic Members of Congress to hold a press conference marking the one-year anniversary of the bipartisan passage of comprehensive immigration reform in the Senate. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

“It has been nearly one year since the Senate – Democrats and Republicans – voted to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Yet, House Republicans continue to turn their backs on the will of a majority of Americans.

“With each passing day, the American people, and countless women and children continue to feel the devastating impacts of inaction. While the House Republican leadership stonewalled legislative action, more than 72,000 parents with U.S. citizen children have been deported. The devastating consequences of these family separations will be felt for generations to come.

“There is no time for excuses; soon the Republicans will be on the wrong side of history. I urge Speaker Boehner to listen to the American public and give them a vote on comprehensive immigration reform.”
