Rep. Chu Statement on Start of the 114th Congress

Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) was sworn in as a member of the 114th Congress. Rep. Chu released the following statement:

“I am honored to once again Represent the 27th district in Congress. Since I was first sworn in in 2009, the unemployment rate in California has dropped by almost 5% as we added about a million jobs. But looking at the tasks ahead, it is clear there is much more to do. Stagnant wages mean many working families are unable to share in the economic recovery. Tax loopholes let corporations move money abroad that could be used to put Americans to work here building roads and bridges. And despite the President’s action, millions of immigrants are still languishing due to our broken system that keeps families apart and pushes aspiring Americans into the shadows.

“Congress must work on proposals that will help more Americans get to work and help ensure that working families have a chance to share in the American dream. But creating new opportunities will require bipartisan cooperation. I am eager to continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in this new Congress to improve the lives of Californians and all Americans.”
