Alerted and aided by residents, Pasadena police responded to reports of a suspicious man who was seen stealing a bicycle and ended up arresting him near the Rose Bowl in a stolen car filled with stolen property Tuesday night.

Pasadena Police Lt. Mark Goodman said citizens first notice the man shortly before 11 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Arroyo Boulevard as he shone a flashlight down driveways, apparently looking for easy items to steal.

At one home, Goodman said, the man reportedly went up a dribeway and into an open garage, emerging with a bicycle he threw into the back of a small SUV he was driving.

Responding officers were tipped off to the car’s license plate number by neighbors. The car had been reported stolen by Los Angeles police.

Additional officers flooded the area, Goodman said, and soon spotted the car near the Rose Bowl, where they conducted a traffic stop. Confronted, the suspect surrendered peacefully.

The suspect is identified as Amanazodi Khyshyar, 40, of Castaic, California, Goodman said. Khyshyar was booked for residential burglary and grand theft auto.
