Roller Coaster Sunny-Then-Rainy Weather Continues This Week

A mild upper level ridge will build in from the southwest over the next few days bringing mostly sunny skies over Pasadena and most of Los Angeles County, with a mix of some high clouds moving through a “dirty ridge,” as forecasters at the National Weather Service said of an area of high pressure that is not strong enough to keep rain and clouds away.

Expect Monday to be sunny, with a high near 76, with some winds gusting from the north northeast as high as 15 miles per hour.

Monday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 48 and a calm south southwest wind.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny as well, but should be cooler by a few degrees due to the Catalina eddy, the NWS says. Highs will be near 71 with a calm five mph north wind. Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 47.

Wednesday should be sunny, with a high near 76, and Wednesday night will be partly cloudy with lows around 52.

Thursday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 70, but Thursday night could see some rain as “the first of several storm systems are expected to move into the region.”

“A major change in the weather pattern looks on track beginning next Thursday as the storm gates open up once again,” says the NWS in a Forecast Discussion Sunday. “The most certain aspect of the period is Thursday when it looks pretty likely that a weakening cold front will bring rain to the Central Coast in the afternoon and then to the rest of the area overnight.”

A series of troughs will be through the area Friday through Sunday, bringing a possible “major 72-hour rain event,” according to the NWS.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 60, and Friday night will have a 70 percent rain chance, with a low around 49.

Saturday could experience more rain as the trough progresses, otherwise it will be partly sunny with a high near 61.

“Looks like rain will continue well into the following week as well,” the NWS said .
