San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership Supports Proposition 1: State Water Bond

The San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership voted to support Proposition 1, the state water bond ballot initiative at its September Legislative Action Committee meeting. Proposition 1 would provide $7.5 billion for critical water projects and management programs throughout California. The proposed bond would be the largest investment in California water infrastructure in decades.

“A clean, reliable and affordable water supply is vital to the residents and businesses of California,” said Cynthia Kurtz, the Partnership’s President & CEO. “This water bond will provide funding for critical water projects throughout the state and will improve water supplies for the future.”

Proposition 1 would make available grant-based funding for a number of critical water issues for the San Gabriel Valley. These include clean-up funds for polluted groundwater, money for water storage infrastructure, and additional support for recycled water programs as well as storm water capture. Proposition 1 can help provide a clean, affordable supply of drinking water for the residents and businesses of the region.

“Most importantly for the San Gabriel Valley, the bond provides funding for a variety of groundwater clean-up programs,” said Kurtz. “If our groundwater was usable, we wouldn’t have to rely on imported water from the north, making our water supply more independent and affordable. Cleaning that water is a long-term project but it is vital for the long-term growth of the Valley. We urge voters to support Prop 1 in November.”
