Pasadena area residents can interact with Pasadena City College artist-in-residence Sant Khalsa and view her works at the PCC Art Gallery on the week from February 22 to 26, 2016.

Sant Khalsa is an artist, educator and curator living in Southern California. Her artworks and curatorial projects develop from her inquiry into the nature of place and the complex environmental and societal issues present and visible in the American West.

Her work has been widely shown internationally in over 150 exhibitions and has been acquired by permanent museum collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Nevada Museum of Art, UCR/California Museum of Photography, in addition to private and corporate collections in the U.S. and Europe.

During Artist -in-Residence week, Khalsa will be sharing her artistic passion for precious water in Southern California, with work addressing water issues and humans’ relationship to the natural world.

Here’s the schedule for the Artist-in-Residence Week:

• Monday, February 22, Khalsa presents a lecture at 7:00pm in the Westerbeck Recital Hall, with a reception to follow in the Boone Family Art Gallery until 9 p.m.

• Tuesday, February 23, Khalsa will be in Deena Caparelli’s Drawing class at 8:45 to 11:50 a.m. She leads a guided creative visualization and drawing exercise focused on one’s individual relationship with nature and place.

• Wednesday, February 24, Khalsa will do a walk-through in Gallery V at 12:30 to 1 p.m., after the 12 to 12:30 p.m. artist talk by Natalie Casagran Lopez, and Whitney Davis via Skype in the same Gallery V. Khalsa will give feedback to the student artists whose work is exhibited in the Water Issues show.

• Thursday, February 25, Khalsa will be in Chris O’Leary’s Photography class at 1 to 3 p.m. in CA 216. At 1:00 p.m. the artist will present a lecture titled “Being Here and There” based on the exhibition of the same title she curated for the MOAH Lancaster art museum. The photographic works by 26 artists developed from each artist’s creative impulse to visually articulate and convey their independent vision of our remarkable Southern California landscape.

• Friday, February 26, Closing Reception/ Presentation of Gift to College in the Boone Family Art Gallery from 12 to 2 p.m.

PCC’s annual Artist-In-Residence program brings nationally and internationally renowned artists to Pasadena City College for a full week of activities plus an exhibit of their work in the art gallery.

During their stay on campus, artists give a public lecture and interact with PCC students. This might include open studios, collaborative projects, workshops, additional lectures or critiques of student work.
