South Pasadena Police reported Wednesday that scammers had apparently posed as the South Pasadena City Council and sent fake text messages to local residents.

A resident alerted police that they received the fake message on their cell phone.

The text that stated it was from the South Pasadena City Council and was alerting residents of an increase in robberies. It urged them to click a link for a free alarm system.

Police warned residents that the message, pictured above, is not from the City of South Pasadena.

“Please do not click any links. The links may lead to malware or a virus. Disregard and delete the text. Please alert your neighbors so they won’t become a victim,” South Pasadena police said in an announcement.
