Scott Phelps Launches Re-Election Campaign for Pasadena Unified Board

Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education member Scott Phelps announced today that he will be seeking re-election to the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education for District 7.

District 7 includes part of the East Arroyo and all of the Linda Vista, San Rafael and Madison Heights areas of the City of Pasadena.

“I am running to continue bringing my expertise in classroom education to Board decision-making, to ensure the reforms being implemented by the current administration are effective and to make sure that resources are used efficiently for student needs,” Phelps said.

Phelps said he has been endorsed “by Pasadena Mayor Terry Tornek, Pasadena City Council Member Tyron Hampton, Pasadena City College Trustees Ross Selvidge, Berlinda Brown and Jim Osterling and Pasadena Educational Foundation President William Creim.

“I intend to run a very strong and issues-based campaign,” Phelps said.

Phelps has dedicated his 27-year professional career to education. After graduating from Caltech in 1989 with a Master of Science in Geophysics, he taught math and science courses at Pasadena High School and John Muir High School from 1989 to 2004. At Muir he was a founding staff member and coordinator of one of the academies present there now.

Since 2004, Phelps has taught math and science courses at the University of La Verne where he is an Adjunct Professor, Mt. San Antonio College, Chaffey College and Cal Poly Pomona. He has also taught in the College of Education at Cal State LA and served as an advisor to teacher credential candidates at Claremont Graduate University, Cal State Northridge and Mt. St. Mary’s College.

He has also worked as a consultant in the program evaluation of schools and districts across California for twelve years.

Phelps has served on the PUSD Board of Education for eleven years. His two children attend PUSD schools and his wife Lisa has been active in the PTAs of the children’s schools.
