Senator Carol Liu (D- La Cañada, Flintridge) will host the first Southern California informational hearing of the new Senate Select Committee on Aging and Long Term Care on Tuesday, July 8th at the Glendale Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p. m.

California has the largest population of people age 65 and older of any state in the nation. The 65+ population is projected to double from 4.3 million in 2010 to 8.4 million in 2030. While care and assistance agencies have grown in California, there has been little effort to coordinate services across the state. Established in February 2014, and Chaired by Senator Liu, the Select Committee’s goal is to develop a comprehensive statewide strategy for an effective and efficient Aging and Long Term Care support and services delivery system. Sitting as members of the committee are Senators Ed Hernandez (D-West Covina), Richard Roth (D- Riverside), Lois Wolk (D-Solano), and Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte).

“The needs of our senior population are growing increasingly complex, and our state lacks a coordinated system.” said Senator Liu. “The Senate Select Committee on Aging and Long Term Care will define what aging looks like in the 21st century and bring stakeholders together to find solutions that meet senior’s needs for care options and independence.”

Participants in the informational hearing include: University of Southern California; University of California, Los Angeles; CA Commission on Aging; National Senior Citizens Law Center; Los Angeles Department of Aging; Leading Age; and the SCAN Foundation.

Interested residents are encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact Senator Carol Liu’s office at: 818-409-0400.
