Senator Carol Liu Announces Winners of Women Mean Business Awards and Luncheon

Senator Carol Liu (D- La Cañada, Flintridge) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Pathways: Women Mean Business Legislative Update and Awards Luncheon. The Women Mean Business Awards honor local women whose exceptional abilities have contributed to the economic vitality, diversity, and quality of life of the 25th Senate District. The winners will be recognized at the Pasadena Hilton on Friday, June 13th, 2014 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
KCAL 9 news anchor Leyna Nguyen will emcee the event and Dixie Noonan, advisor to the Shriver Report, will give a keynote address to an audience of business and civic leaders from across the region. In addition, students from Monrovia High School’s “Kings And Queens” robotics team will be honored for their top placement at the First Robotics World Championships, the only LA area high school team to do so.

“As a member of the Senate Select Committee on Women and Inequality, I am committed to addressing inequalities in the workplace. The honorees of this year’s Women Mean Business awards are true trailblazers; they have a set a great example for women everywhere.” said Senator Liu.

This year’s honorees include:

• Outstanding Small Businesswomen: Debra Nielsen and Yvette-Janine Pardo
• Outstanding Junior Businesswomen: Elizabeth Yang and Amie Boersma
• Outstanding Corporate Women: Lisa H. Reed, Lindsey Rehfield, and Robyn Grandy
• Outstanding Nonprofit Executive Director: Jody Gmeiner and Nickia Cleaves
• Outstanding Nonprofit Employee: Florina Flores Schultz and Julie McElrath
• Woman in Law: Betty Crocker
• Woman in Law Lifetime Achievement Award: Patricia Larrigan
• Woman in Energy Efficiency: Wendy M. James and Debra C. Man
• Woman in Environment Lifetime Achievement: Betty McKenney
• Woman in Science: Dr. Sara Kim, Dr. Mary Gatter and Linda Malkas
• Woman in Technology: Sophia Viklund
• Woman in Arts/Entertainment: Keely Milliken, Lissa Reynolds, and Maria Akopian
• Tami Ginsburg Award (Corporate or Small Business Employee of the Year): Joanne Fletcher and America Solis- Bowman
• Empowerment Award: Hope Perello
• Most Inspirational Award: Anne Lansing
• Outstanding Volunteer: Vicki Oldham
