The Shakespeare Club welcomed past Presidents of the Club and past Directors of The Shakespeare League at its annual Leadership Luncheon.

The Shakespeare League, a junior affiliate well known for the large-scale Broadway-style musicals staged to earn philanthropic funds, merged into the Club in 2011.

The luncheon’s theme “Back to the Ballroom” was the first opportunity for many to see the recent renovations to the ballroom.

Wendy Hinkle of the Gem City Jazz Cats entertained with songs selected from Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and current President Janet Beggs commented on the many metaphors of leadership in the Cinderella fairy tale.

Ann Marie Hickambottom, Field Representative for State Assemblyman Chris Holden, also attended the luncheon, acknowledged the importance of women’s clubs, and presented a Certificate of Recognition honoring the club’s 130-year history of community service.

The Shakespeare Club, established in 1888, is one of the first women’s clubs in the West and the first in Pasadena. It continues to be a gathering place for women with cultural, social, and philanthropic interests. Many enjoy decades of friendship while ever-emerging newer generations discover the supportive friendship and “wisdom of women” they find at The Shakespeare Club Villa.
