The lead investigator into the police shooting of a suspect who allegedly fired on Pasadena officers Friday said this morning the critically wounded suspect is Francisco Flores, 21 years of age.
“Flores is still in the hospital following surgery and is in serious condition,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Steve L. Jauch said this morning.
Jauch said a second occupant of the vehicle being pursued by Pasadena police officers in the incident which led to the shooting turned himself into authorities on Friday. He is identified as Edgar Miron, 20 years old. Miron was booked for suspicion of felony evading with a gang enhancement.
Both suspects are believed to Pasadena residents.
Records indicate Miron was booked in Pasadena and transferred to the County’s Men’s Central Jail on Sunday. He is being held in lieu of a $115,000 bail.
It was determined that the third occupant of the car committed no offense and is no longer a subject in this investigation, Jauch said.
The incident unfolded Friday when Pasadena police attempted to pull over a car in the vicinity of North Los Robles Avenue and Adena Street after officers said they saw suspicious activity.
Sheriff’s Dept. Commander Rod Kusch said as the car was being pursued by police, a passenger jumped from the car and officers chased him by foot.
The suspect was carrying a handgun and, Kusch said, he opened fire on the pursuing officers. The officers returned fire, striking the suspect in the upper torso area.
The officers were not injured, Kusch said.
A statement from the City of Pasadena said that per the Pasadena Police Department’s protocol, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is taking the lead to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
