Side Street Projects Announces Mobile Graphics Lab

Published : Tuesday, January 29, 2019 | 1:42 PM

Side Street Projects is thrilled to announce three new Artist-in-Residents threaded together by the theme of nourishment. “Nourished” is a curatorial project inspired by Dominique Moody’s “Our Garden of Dreams,” a mobile community garden completed at the end of 2018. These three new and exciting artists will be hosted at Side Street Projects for one month each to lead workshops and create a project that nourishes body, creativity, shelter, nature, identity, and community.

The first Artist-in-Residence is Jason Kartez and his project is the creation of a Mobile Graphics Lab. The Lab will be a completely portable teaching station and comics classroom equipped with the materials used for the creation of graphics. The project retools the idea of cookbooks and intergenerational dialogue by using comics as a medium to share knowledge about food and culture. Whether new recipes or old recipes handed down for generations, the mobile graphics lab will help participants exchange and share their cultural heritage and history through food and comic books. This project brings together the best parts of Side Street Project – community building, creativity, mobility, culture, and sustenance.
