Sierra Madre’s Paramedic Subscription Program Helps Manage Out-Of-Pocket Costs

Published on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 | 12:58 pm

One call for emergency paramedic services can cost over $1,000. Many times the cost associated with these services is not covered in full by medical insurance. To help offset the high fees, the City of Sierra Madre created the Sierra Madre Paramedic Subscription Program.

The annual membership program, available to all residents, serves as a secondary insurance plan and covers the out-of-pocket costs associated with emergency medical care. Program membership provides coverage, after insurance billing, for emergency medical treatment and/or ambulance treatment rendered by the Sierra Madre Fire Department.

Members are exempt from all Emergency Medical Service (EMS) related charges, including the City’s EMS Dispatch Fee. Beginning July 1, 2016, the City will apply an EMS Dispatch Fee of $272.86 to all non-transport EMS calls. Under the program, a member patient who is not transported to the hospital would save on the full cost of the Dispatch Fee.

The Sierra Madre Paramedic Subscription Program is available to Sierra Madre residents only and there are no other requirements to join. The annual membership cost is $60 per individual. Enrollment forms are available online and at City Hall. Online service payment and registration coming soon!

If you would like to learn more about the Program, please call the Sierra Madre Fire Department at (626) 355-3611 or visit the City of Sierra Madre website at www.cityofsierramadre.com.
