An elderly Pasadena resident and his son were hospitalized with injuries after they confronted and subdued a violent burglar who broke into their home Tuesday night, police said.

The suspect, whom the pair restrained until police arrived, was also injured and taken to a local hospital. Police said he will be booked after he is medically cleared, but he remained in the hospital all night.

The “hot prowl” burglary happened at about 9 p.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Arlington Drive, Lt. Pete Hettema said.

The occupants were an 87-year-old man, his 84-year-old wife, and the couple’s 63-year-old son.

Hettema said the house occupant’s first sensed something was wrong when they smelled smoke coming out from the kitchen.

“The father and son confronted the suspect inside their kitchen, and a violent struggle ensued between the victims and the suspect,” Hettema said. “During the struggle, the suspect threatened to kill the father and struck him in the head with an unknown object. The wife called 911 and a neighbor for help. The victims restrained the suspect until police arrived.”

Hettema added the father and son – and the suspect as well – were transported to a local hospital in stable condition after sustaining injuries.

The suspect was identified as Gregory Park, 36, a Los Angeles resident.

“After medical examination is completed, the suspect will be booked for attempted murder and first degree burglary,” Hettema said.

Police are continuing investigation of the incident.
