Wilson Reservoir, the most critical water storage facility in South Pasadena’s water system that did not meet earthquake standard when it was in complete disrepair, has been completely rebuilt to the tune of nearly $11 million.

The city originally purchased the 0.9 million-gallon reservoir in San Gabriel back in 1923. Prior to the major overhaul, the concrete reservoir with a wooden roof was predominantly buried.

South Pasadena City Manager Sergio Gonzalez said it is the principle source for the city’s water supply and is the most critical storage facility in South Pasadena’s water system. A majority of the city’s water supply is blended and chlorinated at the site.

Seven years ago, city officials reported that a portion of the roof was sagging and that it could collapse at any time. In addition, city officials also say the structured did not meet earthquake standards prior to its complete overhaul.
