South Pasadena Gears Up for Amgen Tour of California

The City of South Pasadena hosted a community ride last Friday to highlight South Pasadena’s involvement as a host city in the 2016 Amgen Tour of California. The ride was led by fan-favorite professional rider Jens Voigt, finisher of 17 Tour de France races.

Voigt will serve as a race ambassador for the 2016 Amgen Tour of California and a commentator on NBC Sports. South Pasadena city officials were excited Voigt came to town to participate in the Friday’s event.

Assisting with the event were riders from be the Pasadena Athletic Association (PAA), a cycling organization that provided coffee and breakfast items for the participants.

The ride will begin and end at the South Pasadena Library Park with the route taking riders along El Centro Street to Arroyo Drive into Pasadena and down to the Rose Bowl. Riders then headed back to the South Pasadena along Arroyo Drive and through town on Mission Street while making their way back to the Library Park in the city. Following the ride, Voigt and city officials were on hand to ask the cyclist about the upcoming Amgen Tour of California event.

On Monday, May 16,  the City of South Pasadena will be hosting the start of Stage 2 of the world class race. Top racers from around the world will showcase their cycling talents in South Pasadena.
