South Pasadena Girl Scout Troop Rebuilds Eddie Park Bridge

After a year of planning, raising funds, and hard work, South Pasadena Girl Scout Troop 3161 has rebuilt a small bridge in Eddie Park that had fallen in disrepair.

Originally built by Girl Scout Dana Getman to earn her Gold Award in 1998, the bridge had been a beloved part of traditional scout bridging ceremonies. But, after years of weathering and hundreds of happy Girl Scouts hopping over it, the wooden structure began to weaken, right about the time that Troop 3161 was looking for a worthy project.

“The girls were ready to work on earning their Bronze Award,” said Kimber Crow, leader of the troop, which is made up of seven Arroyo Vista fifth graders.

Izzy Hurtado, member of the troop added, “We have been bridging over that bridge since we were Daisies. When it was torn out, we knew we had to give other troops a chance to bridge there, too, and have the same memories we did.”

On May 27, the troop hosted a dedication ceremony for the new Eddie Park Bridge. All local Girl Scout supporters were invited to the ceremony.
