Stater Bros. says it’s looking for about 100 new employees as it prepares to launch its first Pasadena location.

Entry level positions including courtesy clerks and janitors are being staffed, as well as positions requiring experience, such as merchandise clerks, meat clerks and food clerks, company representatives said.

The store will occupy the building at Allen Avenue and Washington Boulevard that housed Vons for 47 years, before it closed its doors for good last April.

“Construction for this location is progressing very well,” Stater Bros. Director of Marketing Marisa Kutansky said. “At this point we do not have a firm opening date.”

But both Stater Bros. and city officials said they expect the store to open by the end of the year.

“Stater Bros. is continuing to make progress on the remodel and is hoping to be open by Thanksgiving,” Councilwoman Margaret McAustin said.

Job applications are already being accepted through the grocery chain’s website, she said. No plans for in-person hiring events have been announced.

The store will include full-service meat, seafood, deli and bakery departments, FujiSan Handcrafted Sushi and a floral department, Kutansky said.

“Additional enhancements include a section of freshly prepared, grab-and-go food items for time-crunched customers,” she added.

The building is being fitted with energy efficient upgrades, as well as “a décor scheme reflecting Pasadena’s rich history, according to Kutansky.
